“I love deadlines…”

It amazes me how much Icelandic people like to live on the edge of deadlines .. and I am no exception.

I’m Icelandic and sometimes I sign up only at the last moment .. or enter the store 2 minutes before it closes.

But why do we do this time and time again?

I’ve heard foreigners joke about something us Icelandic people keep saying again and again:

“Þetta reddast” – click to tweet

And then the foreigners break out in laughter..

I get it why foreigners laugh at us for constantly saying this phrase ..

  1. We have no sense of urgency
  2. We see the deadlines
  3. We miss the deadlines on purpose
  4. We say “Þetta reddast”
  5. We pay the penalty for being late.
  6. Rinse and repeat.

I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of this

I’m tired of seeing the deadline, miss it on purpose with no logical reason for missing it and then pay the penalty for it.

I’m tired of making myself a laughingstock.

I’m tired of procrastination when I can do something about it.

I’m changing my act.

Today.

Now.

How do I change my behavior?

Easy.

In December 2013 I bought an audio book that changed the way I think about myself.

I read this book once or twice per month (usually in audio format using Audible) to help me change my behaviour from how I act to how I want to act. So far, I’ve managed to change many negative aspects of myself into positive aspects. It works. The New Psycho-Cybernetics

The book is called “Psycho-Cybernetics” and was written in 1960 and updated in 2002.

It is the reason behind the success of many entrepreneurs, sport stars, TV celebrities, housewives and countless others. I highly recommend that you read it.

Here’s a small hint from the book on how to change your behavior

Start changing the way you think about yourself.

Instead of saying to yourself when you’re late for something “Dammit, I’m always late”, say “This isn’t like me to be late, I’m always 10 minutes early. I’ll have to go 10 minutes earlier next time.”

Believe it or not, this works.

How about you, are you tired of being late?

If so, then do these two things:

  1. Listen to and read Psycho-Cybernetics, then apply it to your daily life over time.
  2. BUY A TICKET to the Startup Iceland 2015 conference before the end of March so you don’t pay the higher price.
  3. Sit down and relax, you deserve it. 🙂

Have you changed your negative behavior to a positive one?

Then let us know below in the comments, we love hearing stories from other people! 🙂
