I take chance meetings all the time. That is how I got to know and meet Magnus Bjornsson, thank you Daniel for making the connection. Magnus was very generous to change his travel plans to participate in Startup Iceland as a speaker. Magnus is Icelandic but has been living and working in the US for almost 13 years. He and his family have decided to move back to Iceland. You can ask him why when you meet in Startup Iceland. Magnus will be one of the speakers at Startup Iceland.

He is currently serving as Sr. Director of Development at Oracle Corp where he’s leading the core development of Oracle’s Big Data Discovery product. Prior to Oracle he worked at Endeca, a start-up that was acquired by Oracle in 2012 in Oracle’s 6th biggest acquisitions at the time. Before Endeca, Magnus held both management and technical leadership positions at EMC Corp. In 1996 Magnus co-founded and built one of the first companies specializing in digital media advertising in Iceland, Aet ehf. Magnus holds a B.S. degree in Theoretical Physics from the University of Iceland and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Brandeis University.

I think it would be interesting to hear Magnus talk about the tale of two startups one he started in Iceland and the other that he joined in the US, which was acquired by Oracle. In case you are wondering and did not click on the link about Oracle’s acquisition of Endeca, it was a Billion dollar acquisition. Magnus brings a wealth of experience on technology, startups and working at a large corporation. I am happy that he has agreed to speak and mentor during Startup Iceland. Remember you need to have a ticket to schedule a mentoring session with any and all speakers at Startup Iceland. If you have not bought your tickets yet.
