Had an excellent brainstorming session with Gudjon Mar Gudjonsson and Aðalsteinn “Alli” Óttarsson on how to implement a grass root movement to adopt the Lean Startup principles in Iceland for businesses across the board. We all come from different backgrounds so it was very interesting for me to hear their perspectives. What was interesting to hear from both Gudjon and Alli was that Lean Startup mentality and philosophy is equally needed in established big organizations as it is needed in startups. Gudjon started the grass root movement called the Ministry of Ideas and lead the effort to facilitate the National Assembly and then followed through with helping the Icelandic parliament in getting the people of Iceland through the wisdom of crowd method to write the new constitution of Iceland. Here is the link to a video and link to the slideshare presentation where he describes what they did, a fantastic start to change Iceland. I think what they did in 2009 started many people onto their entrepreneurship journey. Alli works for CCP games, one of the most innovative companies in Iceland, they are the company behind one the most popular Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) game EVE online.
We are planning to have the first discussion this saturday January 14th @Kaffi Solon @17:00, the invitation is here. We had a couple of ideas mainly to start as a Book Club or get participation to have someone lead the effort on a monthly basis on how best to apply the Lean Startup methods and principles in each of their respective environments. More or less, start a movement from Ideas to Action.

I feel like I AM ON FIRE and BURNING, for those who have not read the guest post Be On Fire” by everyone’s favorite giant robot dinosaur FAKEGRIMLOCK at Brad Feld‘s blog, go read it! It is inspiring and I feel more inspired to meet people who share the same vision for change and action.
